Deciding to work from home can be a good decision or a bad one. It depends of your attitude and your love for business. If you really make the decision to start a home business you have made the first step to succeed. But now the question is: " How do i choose the best home business among the internet business opportunities jungle ?

There are litterally millions of them on the internet. Where do i start ? And how do i know if this or this home business is the right one for me ?

2. FREE website. Does your home business offer you a free website or gateways ? If not! Are you able to make or run a website. Or to pay to make one. (It can cost between $100 to $5000 to have one made by an expert.)

3. FREE Training and follow-up

What kind of support and training does the Internet company offer? What kind of support and training do you want when you start up your home business? Do you want ongoing training ? Or just a Smart Start Training ?

4. Great Products

Does the company offer exclusive product like vitamin or special information ? Is it easy to sale ? Is it a quality product ? Does it have a money back guaranteed ? Are they to pricey to buy ?

5. Compensation Plan

Does the company offer a good commission like between 40% to 80% per sales ? Does it offer residual income ? (a residual income; is an income you get month after month on the same product you sell to the clients as long as he keeps buying it).

Does it offer great rewards like after 4 sales you get a bonus ? Are there clear goals that you can achieve? Is it hard to achieve does goals ?

6. Leads generation system

Does your home business offer you leads that you can buy to build your business ? Are those leads old or new leads ? Are they double opt-in or even triple opt-in quality leads ? Are they really good leads ?

5 overlooked ways to market your work at home business

Everyone is always looking for more ways to market their work at home business. You often here about PPC advertising, writing articles, link exchanges, and a few other business marketing techniques that everyone uses. However, there are many other ways to market your work at home business that a lot of people just don’t think of.

I have offered five good business marketing techniques below that are often overlooked. Of course, many people do use them but there’s not nearly as much competition in these techniques as there is with some of the others. Plus, these marketing techniques are all either free or very near it. Getting traffic to your site for free or very little cost is always a good thing in my opinion.

Here are five ways to market your work at home business that you may not have thought of before:

1) Enhanced Business Card – Get a business card with color, an eye catching background, and add your picture to it. Maybe you could also have a cool quote or a free offer on it, plus anything else you can think of to get peoples attention.

The point is you need to make it stand out among all the other business cards someone might see in a month. Make sure your website URL is on it in a highly noticable place. Then, leave it everywhere you can, and hand it out to everyone you meet.

2) Give away freebies - Underpromise and overdeliver! That is the best business marketing strategy ever thought up. Pretty much all the “big-dogs” use it in their marketing campaigns. You can too by giving away free stuff at your website, or in your newsletter, without telling anyone they will be receiving it.

Say someone visits your website from an ad you placed that didn’t mentioned anything about getting a free ebook. They will be absolutely delighted to find the extra free gift.This is a great way to get people to not only return to your site, but tell their friends about it too.

3) Sponsor Events - A great way to spread the word about your business is to sponsor events in your area. There are many games, events, charity drives, intramurals, little leagues, etc... That are just waiting for people like you to give a little bit of your money to help out.

There are cheerios under my desk. In fact, if I roll my chair in any direction, I leave what would appear to the untrained eye to be little piles of brown sawdust. My carefully selected work clothes for the day, are a red shirt with little brown Teddybears across the front, and black and white zebra-striped fuzzy pants...the kind of pants you'd never want to be seen in by anyone...except maybe your lifetime partner. (And then, only if you both were given a matching set by a favorite grandparent!)

You'd never guess by this attractive ensemble, that I am in fact, working. By work I do not mean being a Mom, because while that is the world's most important, (and thankless!) job , that sort-of just goes without saying. I am in actual fact, AT work. You know, the kind of work that brings-in that "greenstuff"- for food, Veggie Tales Sing Along CDs (or zebra striped PJ's!)...

I love working from home. It's a choice I made when my first child was born, and it's a commitment I stand by. I want to be at home with my kids until they are old enough to go to school, and even then, I would like to be at home when they come in the front door at the end of each day, full of stories and things to share. There is nothing like being there for your child's most important moments. Having to hear the recount of an event from your babysitter/day care provider, can cause you to spend the rest of the night wishing you could have experienced it for yourself, and questioning your decision to work outside the home. While the economy seems to have made double incomes a requirement, there is a major flux of women choosing work at home careers, as a way to be available to their family, and ALSO make some additional income.

The rewards of working from home are being discovered worldwide. In fact, many large corporations are realizing the value in telecommuting positions, and this wave of acceptance is allowing the stay-at-home mom many more options for work at home careers. Envelope stuffing, or MLM companies are no longer the complete list of possibilities. Jobs can range from assembling crafts, to owning your own business, to being a virtual personal assistant!

There are, however, challenges specific to a work-at home mom's situation, and if this is an option you are seriously considering, here are 7 tips to help you avoid the same pitfalls I encountered at the start of my work-at-home "career".

Pitfall #1: " The longest day in history"

This is what happens when a mother works from home, but hasn't set any specific work hours. While most telecommute positions do offer very flexible hours, it's important to work out a specific work-day. You can fit it in wherever you would feel most productive. Does your little one watch a morning cartoon? Are Barney and Big Bird regular visitors to your living room? Set-up your office area, in such a way that you can keep an eye on your little one, but not right next to the TV...after all, I'm sure that account exec you have on the phone, already knows his ABC's! Does your child still take a nap? This is a great chance to be productive, in a quiet house. I recommend doing any of your business calls during this time.

Pitfall #2 : "Superwoman Syndrome"

I'm not sure who passed this pamphlet out to women worldwide, but I am here to tell you there was a MISPRINT! It was not supposed to read: "Women must do everything to perfection, without receiving any help of any kind from partners/husbands/parents/friends." I have it on good authority, that it was supposed to read:" Women can do anything to perfection, but it's done BEST with the help of partners/husbands/parents/friends." It is unreasonable to expect yourself to maintain the same workload, in ADDITION to a work at home job!

The thing about working from home, is that it's easy to undervalue the work. Just because you don't commute, and you are doing your work in your PJ's, doesn't mean you aren't working! Be sure to re-evaluate your total responsibilities, and ask for help sometimes. If you're a single mom, "burnout" is a real possibility if you don't take some time off for yourself. Take advantage of a "naptime" every now and then, to just spend time doing something you enjoy-take a hot bath, watch a favorite show, do something creative or even catch a quick snooze!

Pitfall#3: "Tug of War"

Picture this: You're sitting at your desk in an office somewhere, and every 60 seconds or so, the phone rings, and you are interrupted by something or someone at your home in need of your help or input. It would be a challenge just to KEEP that job, let alone be SUCCESSFUL! Anytime there is a change in the way a home is managed, everybody needs to adjust. This includes the children! If your kids are old enough to understand : "worktime", then ask them to help you by respecting that time, and keeping things quiet....explain that you are there for them, if something important comes up, but if they can sort-it-out themselves, that would be great! If you have a toddler like I do, reasoning is....ummm...well, a waste of energy! I suggest either keeping your non-phone work to the times he/she is up and being active, and save any professional phone conversations for when he/she is sleeping, or having "quiet time" in their room. The other alternative, is to hire a "mother's helper"-usually, this is someone too young to be left completely on their own, but old enough not to have to mind every minute of the day. This is most easily accomplished during the summer, since school hours make it hard to coordinate a schedule. Another option, is to join (or start!) a babysitting co-op. This way, if you arrange one day of a babysitting swap per week, then you will have one whole day to do anything you need to-housework, office work, an outing just for Mom...Then, on the day when you are watching the other Mom's child, you can have extra quality playtime with your little one! This set-up is a good way to avoid babysitting charges, to help your little one develop great social skills, and to provide you with an essential "break".

Pitfall#4: "Pennies a Day"

When is the last time you went to an interview at a company's office, and after they said they'd love to have you on board, they asked you for money!?

This pitfall is especially tricky. Whether you are working for yourself, or for a company, it is important to remember that your time is valuable, and compensation is not optional! This may seem strange, but you'd be surprised how easy it is to work for pennies a day! Remember: Be very leery of any "jobs" wanting you to buy something, or asking for a fee to join. There are legitimate training courses, where you are then certified in that particular work, but I would research it very carefully before investing any money in it. Be sure to set a financial goal, and pay attention to how much time you are putting in, versus the financial reimbursement. The best situation, is to work for a company that offers a weekly or bi-weekly base pay, plus commission. This allows you to budget your household, and provides you with a chance to earn what you're worth!

Pitfall #5: "EARN THOUSANDS A WEEK-STARTING TODAY!"

If you see this ad, run as fast as you can, IN THE OTHER DIRECTION! Anything in life needs a good chance to get started-to grow and flourish. The same truth applies to your own business, or a work-at-home business. Give yourself, and/or your carefully selected career an opportunity to grow. Especially if you are working strictly on commission at first, allow yourself 3 to 6 months to build clientele, and figure-out which work schedule works best for you and your family. If you are having trouble getting started, I recommend joining a discussion list for work at home moms-they have probably been through it before, and can offer you valuable insight and information. Most of all, be patient with yourself. Think of it as a "gestation" period!

Pitfall #6: "Write it off Baby!"

One of the great things about working from home, is that many of your household bills, such as phone, electricity, heat, and sometimes even rent, can at least in part be claimed as a business expense! If you make a run to your nearest office supply store, to pick-up a printer cartridge and some pens, those are business expenses! Be sure to save the receipts! I have one of those large brown envelopes tacked to my message board-whenever I pick up anything that will be used, (even in part!), for my business, I stick it in that envelope! The H&R Block agents duck when they see me coming, but you'd be surprised at the difference it can make! This also includes things like lunches with clients, gas money for any long trips to meetings, even necessary business attire. If you spend household money on your business, you are entitled to compensation!

Pitfall #7: "Who ARE you?"

It is easier than you could imagine, to lose yourself within the walls of your home and home office. When everything you are doing is within a couple thousand square feet, it's so easy to forget there is a whole world outside! Remember to get-out, and have some kind of social life. I would suggest that you get out once in awhile on your own-without the kids, or your partner. Do something that feeds your soul and inspires you to keep moving forward. Something that will make you feel powerful, and competent. After all-you ARE!

If you've just begun your search for a work at home job, you probably have a beautiful concept of what working from home is like. You probably imagine yourself waking up whenever you want, sliding your feet into fuzzy slippers and shuffling to the kitchen to get some coffee, then shuffling along to your office to put in another wonderful day at work, then later going to the mailbox to pick up your weekly paycheck of several thousand dollars. I hate to burst your bubble, but it doesn't work that way. Actually, let me clarify that and say it doesn't always work that way.

The truth is, working at home is usually a lot harder than working in an office somewhere. Scammers and hyped-up business opportunity ads have given us the belief that working at home is oh-so-easy. We just relax on a tropical beach, then go collect our paychecks. I'm sure you've seen ads like that. Those of us who already work at home know better!

Here are some things you should consider before jumping into a work at home job:

How much do you want to earn? - If you want to work for an employer as a telecommuter, be prepared to earn less than you would at a job outside the home. A job that pays $11.00 an hour in the regular workforce might pay $7 or $8 an hour at home. There are exceptions of course. Some jobs, like virtual assisting, web design and graphics, medical transcription and coding and other professional jobs will probably pay more than a simple data entry or customer service job. Many work at home jobs don't pay hourly either. For data entry work, you might get paid per piece, and for telephone jobs you might get paid per "talk minute" (only those minutes you are actually on the phone with a customer.)

Do you need benefits? - The majority of work at home jobs do not provide benefits like health insurance or life insurance. Again, there are exceptions.

Taxes - There are companies that will hire you as an actual "employee" and they will take taxes out of your pay. But some will only hire you as an "independent contractor," and you are responsible for paying your own taxes.

Work availability - If you are hired as an independent contractor, it's important to understand that your employer is not obligated to provide any work for you. Most companies have busy seasons and slow seasons. During a busy season, you might be working 40-50 hours a week, and then the slow season arrives and suddenly you're fighting to get even 10 hours of work per week. If your income is especially important to your household, definitely keep that in mind. However, many people choose to work more than one job at a time. If one slows down, they simply start working more for the other.

How motivated are you? - If you are the type of person who usually needs a kick in the rear to get moving, working at home will be very hard on you. You have to be extremely disciplined to sit down at the computer, log in and actually WORK each day. There are so many distractions in the home that will pull you away from work if you let them. You have to be very focused and set a schedule for yourself, just like you would at a job outside the home.

Do you mind solitude? - Working at home can be lonely. If you thrive on social interaction, working alone can be difficult to adjust to. However, you can ease this by spending time with friends frequently, or joining some online groups to chat with like minded people.

Flexibility - Some employers require you to work a specific set schedule, while others might be more flexible, allowing you to choose your own hours. Give some thought to which type of schedule would work best for you. When I first decided to work at home, I made the mistake of choosing a job that had a rigid schedule, and I hated it! I had forgotten that that was one of the things I disliked about working outside the home - living by someone else's schedule. Think about how you work best, and choose accordingly.

Childcare - So many mothers want to work at home so they can raise their own children, rather than sending them to a daycare. However, working at home with small children underfoot is no easy task! It's not impossible, and it depends greatly on the ages of your children and what type of work you are doing at home. If you work a telephone job, most employers will require a very quiet background, which is impossible if you have small children. You also can't stop working every few minutes to entertain the kids, unless you want to put in a very long day at the computer to make up for all the interruptions. There are certainly things you can do to make it easier, like have a neighborhood teenager come in for a few hours to watch your children while you work, or work only when your spouse is home and can keep an eye on the kids.

Choosing work that fulfills you - This is SO important! Right now you're probably thinking, "I don't care what type of work I do, as long as it brings in a paycheck." I guarantee that attitude won't last long. Like I said, you will need to be extremely self-motivated and self-disciplined to work at home, and your job will be a lot easier if you actually like what you do! Think about the type of person you are, and the type of work that suits you best. Are you creative and free-spirited, or nose-to-the-grindstone efficient? Give some thought to your "vision" of working at home, and try to find a job (or business) that will complement that.

Do you even want a "job?" - When some people decide they want to "work at home," they don't want a regular J-O-B at all. What they want is the freedom to set their own schedule and do work they love. It's certainly possible to find those qualities in a job, but it can be difficult. If this describes you, consider starting your own business instead, focusing on your existing talents and abilities. I think many people shy away from this idea because it seems so overwhelming. But people do this every day! It's not hard at all. If you don't know much about business but have an interest, start learning! There are so many great resources on the internet today. If you're still not sure what type of work at home is best for you, get out a pad of paper and a pen. Write this sentence along the top of the page: I want to work at home because . . . and then write down as many endings to that sentence as you can think of. If most of your answers have to do with freedom and passionate, fulfilling work, a "job" might not be the best thing for you.

Regardless of what type of work you decide on, understand that working at home can be difficult and challenging. But for most of us who do it, it is also wonderful. Personally, I wouldn't trade it for anything! And once you find the right job or business, you will probably feel the same.

If this article has given you the impression that working at home might not be for you, remember that you can change if you want it badly enough. If you're not very motivated, work on that. Give yourself little challenges every day and strengthen your level of self-discipline. If you need health benefits, keep searching for a job that provides them, or research other possibilities like affordable health insurance for the self-employed. If your resolve is strong enough, you can make it happen! Never give up on your dreams.
